Sharad Anand a new Sharjah Golf & Shooting Club member battled the stifling heat and humidity to capture the 8th edition of Sharjah Golf & Shooting Club’s Ramadan Midweek Open played on Thursday 8th June with 34 points. Sharad’s round didn’t get off to the best start as he dropped several shots and struggled to find form, he battled through and posted 14 points for the front nine holes. The back nine also started slow for Sharad but his form came good in the end, for the last five holes Sharad was able to post 4 net birdies and a par to give him a back nine score of 20 points and a total Stableford score on the night of 34.
Sharad’s back nine score really was the secret to his success as three other competitors posted the same 34 Stableford total. One such competitor was Sharad’s good fried and current Club Captain Vivian Verma who posted 18 points on the back nine, losing on the count back by two points. Vivian didn’t go home empty handed as he collected the Division A winning trophy. Collecting the Division B trophy was SGSC Member Ramesh Wijeratne, he also posted 34 Stableford Points however in quiet the contrast Ramesh started his round very well but fell away towards the end, posting only three points over the last three holes.
The final award of the day went to a young man who has invested a lot of time and effort into his game this season as he joined forces with PGA teaching Professional Chris Dennis. Sinar Suraj of the SGSC collected the gross prize after finishing with a total of 31 gross points, he managed to finish slightly stronger than last year’s Gross Winner Namir Al Naimi to claim victory.
