- More than 60 tonnes of books, toys, clothes and other items were donated by mall visitors across the region
Majid Al Futtaim, the leading shopping mall, communities, retail and leisure pioneer across the Middle East, Africa and Asia, today announced that its mall visitors donated more than 60 tonnes of books, toys, clothes and other items to less fortunate families across the region during its 11th annual ‘Make a Difference’ Ramadan campaign.
The campaign encourages communities across the region to participate and make a difference by donating goods and money via marked charity boxes at Majid Al Futtaim’s shopping malls, leisure and entertainment destinations and Carrefour stores in Bahrain, Egypt, Lebanon, Oman, and the UAE.
In total, almost 9,000 people contributed to the ‘Make a Difference’ Ramadan campaign. This year, customers were also able to donate via Fetchr, which ensured that the entire experience of donating was seamless for consumers opting to use its service. The courier volunteered its drivers to collect and drop off donations free of charge, in a successful charitable partnership. Majid Al Futtaim also received US $57,500 (AED 211,000) in cash contributions from Carrefour customers and through Najm, the company’s Visa credit card.
Alain Bejjani, Chief Executive Officer, Majid Al Futtaim – Holding, said: “Each year, we are humbled by the generosity of our customers during Ramadan. For the 11th consecutive year, their enthusiastic participation and generous donations have made our ‘Make a Difference’ Ramadan campaign a wonderful success. With the help of our trusted charity partners in Bahrain, Egypt, Lebanon, Oman and UAE, 60 tonnes of toys, books and clothes are making their way to children in need across the region. At Majid Al Futtaim, our vision is to create great moments for everyone everyday, which makes us particularly proud to help put smiles on the faces of children in need at this special time of year.”
Embracing the spirit of Ramadan, Majid Al Futtaim employees took part in several initiatives during the holy month. In collaboration with Emirates Red Crescent Society, employees hosted special iftars for children in need, as well as iftars for Majid Al Futtaim construction site workers, who received tailor made gift packs as part of the ‘We’ve Got Your Back’ campaign.
Across the region, Majid Al Futtaim partnered with charitable organisations such as the Islamic Association in Bahrain, Life Makers in Egypt, Ahl Masrin Egypt, Bassma in Lebanon, Dar Al-Atta in Oman, and Red Crescent in the UAE, which ensured timely delivery of all goods through their humanitarian network during Ramadan.
