Sharjah Golf and Shooting Club hosted the playoff round for the Conares Golf Society League on Saturday the 2nd of March.
The societies who have not already qualified for the knock out stages had one final chance to progress. 10 societies competed in a 4 ball better ball format with both pairs stableford points then being added to already acquired matchplay league points. With the top two societies going through to the quarter finals automatically it was all to play for. In what was tough conditions at SGSC due to a strong wind it was the society of The Dubai Irish that blew the field away with team A scoring 39 points and team B recording 36 stableford points, resulting in a brilliant team total of 75 and a final league total of 88 to take the top qualifying spot. The second qualifying spot could not have been closer between the societies of Sports 2 Business and Emirates Gentlemen’s GS. Sports 2 Business had a total of 72 while Emirates Gentlemen posted 67points on the day, Sports 2 business were trailing Emirates Gentlemen by five points going into the play off so these scores saw them in a tie for second spot. Fortunately for Sports 2 Business they claimed the second qualifying spot by virtue of a countback on previous rounds played. Hard lines for Emirates Gentlemen Golf Society who have played some excellent golf for the duration of the event.
Competitors also had a chance to win day prizes for best betterball stableford score. Congratulations to Dave Minchin & Chris Davies (S2B) on their win in the Day’s prizes from the 2nd February 2019 with a betterball score of 39 stableford points. They both won pro shop vouchers for their efforts.
The Next round of the GSL will be the quarter finals, hosted at SGSC on the 16th of March & will see the first stage of the knock out rounds for the societies that have qualified.
