OMEGA Dubai Moonlight Classic 2019

May 1st-3rd

Dubai to host world’s first professional day-night golf tournament

The inaugural OMEGA Dubai Moonlight Classic 2019 made its début today on the Faldo Course at the Emirates Golf Club. In a pioneering change to the Ladies European Tour schedule, the three-day event is the world’s first professional day-night golf tournament – and will see two of its three rounds being played under lights.

The event will incorporate two separate competitions.

  • From Wednesday to Friday, a 3-day individual tournament will be played between 56 professional players.
  • On Wednesday and Thursday, the professionals will each be joined by a team of 3 amateur players (168 in total) for a 2-day Tour Scramble competition.

The ProAm rounds on the Wednesday and Thursday will feature the day/night action under the Faldo Course floodlights.

Speaking about OMEGA’s role as the title sponsor was Raynald Aeschlimann, President and CEO of OMEGA. He said, “OMEGA is not only passionate about golf, but also about pioneering moments and sport. This tournament is the first of its kind and we’re thrilled to be a part of it. The Moonlight theme relates closely to our history of space exploration, but here on Earth, it’s a fantastic chance to see some of the best professional and amateur golfers in action. We wish them all the best of luck.”

The individual professional winner of this year’s tournament will take home a winner’s cheque and trophy along with an OMEGA Speedmaster 38 mm. This special timepiece features a stainless steel and 18K Sedna™ gold case with a unique dual bezel design with diamonds and the famous tachymeter scale on a brown aluminium ring. The “cappuccino” dial includes elegant horizontal oval subdials, while inside, the watch is driven by the OMEGA Co-Axial Calibre 3330.

A Speedmaster 38 mm timepiece will also be awarded to the first player who lands a hole-in-one on the 8th hole.

The OMEGA Dubai Moonlight Classic was previously known as the OMEGA Dubai Ladies Classic and was traditionally played as the LET’s season-ending tournament in December. OMEGA has a long-established involvement with the competition and looks forward to the exciting changes that will certainly heighten amateur and community involvement.
