Provincial Minister for Trade and Industries Mian Aslam Iqbal presided over the 105th board meeting of Punjab Small Industries Corporation (PSIC) at its office here on Tuesday in which annual budget 2019-20 worth Rs.3898.936 million was given approval along with the decision of setting up a regional office in Sahiwal Industrial Estate. The Minister expressed displeasure over the slow process of setting up of industrial units in the industrial estates and added that non-colonization of the small industrial estate is regrettable. He inquired why implementation of law regarding the colonization of small industrial estates has not been ensured yet. The Minister said that it would not happen now that the plots are occupied by unwilling people while the intending businessmen are waiting for the opportunity. PSIC board is autonomous and it should perform the duty honestly and diligently instead of making others responsible for its negligence. It will have to take necessary steps with accelerated speed for the colonization of small industrial estates because industrial units should be set up on the land acquired for the purpose of trade and economic activities. He said that a comprehensive policy should be submitted for the colonization of all the industrial estates and complete roadmap should be developed before starting any new industrial estate. It should also be reviewed that which industry is required in any district and comprehensive plan be submitted within the next few days. The meeting also reviewed the distribution of interest-free loans under self-employment scheme. Secretary Industries Tahir Khursheed, Additional Secretary, and board members attended the meeting.
