The Health Promotion Department, HPD, at the Supreme Council for Family Affairs in Sharjah, SCFA, organized on Sunday an awareness lecture entitled “Reprogram your Genes”, targeting a number of employees of government institutions in Sharjah.
The event is part of the “Wazen” program, the first health survey for Sharjah government employees, which is one of the HPD’s initiatives launched under the patronage of Her Highness Sheikha Jawaher Bint Mohammed Al Qasimi, Wife of His Highness the Ruler of Sharjah and Chairperson of the Supreme Council for Family Affairs in Sharjah.
Delivered by Dr. Maryam Matar, Founder & Chairperson of the UAE Genetic Diseases Association, the lecture focused on the importance of studying genetics to strengthen society’s health and the role of individuals in controlling their genes by adopting healthy practices such as balanced diet, exercise sports, and some mental activities.
An educational exhibition was held on the sidelines of the event, in addition to handing out awareness leaflets and providing medical consultations.
A Work Environment Supportive to Employees
HE Iman Rashid Saif, Director of the Health Promotion Department, said that the lecture comes as part of a number of awareness events and educational lectures organized by HPD within the second phase of “Wazen” program launched in January 2019, which is targeting employees in 60 government departments in Sharjah and the eastern and central regions of the emirate, with the aim of supporting them to adopt healthy lifestyles and behaviors and to promote the culture necessary to create a supportive work environment for employees.
“The HPD is always keen on launching several initiatives and programs to bolster Sharjah’s efforts to be the region’s and the world’s first healthy city, thanks to the patronage and the unlimited support of Her Highness Sheikha Jawaher Bint Mohammed Al Qasimi,” Saif underlined.
She pointed out that Department is regularly organizing educational lectures and awareness workshops that focus on the knowledge theoretical aspect, through doctors and health educators who provide the latest health information and tips, with the goal of enhancing health awareness and motivating people to follow healthy lifestyles.
How to Manage and Control your Genes
The lecture also shed light on educating employees about how to control your genes to avoid and resist several diseases.
In this regard, Dr. Maryam Matar said that the Science has proved the human ability to control his genes, stressing that genetic factors could be an indicator of the person’s infection with one of the chronic diseases such as diabetes, high cholesterol or breast cancer.
Therefore, a person can stop these hazards by relying on a healthy and living style, in which sport has an essential role while avoiding psychological stress, she concluded.
Worth mention that the HPD and Health Supporting Associations at the SCFA have made great strides in the year 2019, thanks to its success in n delivering its health awareness messages to more than 62 thousand people from all age groups, by organizing more than 349 lectures and workshops and educational platforms in governmental and private institutions and public places.
This is in addition to providing free examinations to more than 10 thousand people of all nationalities, as part of its strategic goals which aim to raise the level of health awareness among all members of society and promote healthy lifestyles.Email This Post
