• Together with 48 partners across hospitality, entertainment, and retail sectors, DCT Abu Dhabi underlines the city’s unique destination offering at the three-day conference

As part of its mandate to promote Abu Dhabi as a destination of distinction, The Department of Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi (DCT Abu Dhabi) participated in ITB Berlin, a three-day global trade fair in Berlin, Germany, from 7th to 11th March. Attracting over 10,000 exhibitors and organisations from more than 180 countries, the event gave DCT Abu Dhabi one of its widest annual platforms to network with key industry representatives.

The Department was joined by 48 partners and stakeholders, including the Emirate’s national airline, Etihad Airways, along with leading hotels, such as Danat Hotels & Reports; destination management companies; tour operators; and key attractions like the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque. Several new entities joined the delegation for the first time, including The Abu Dhabi Edition, Grand Hyatt Abu Dhabi Hotel & Residences Emirates Pearl and Jumeirah at Saadiyat Island.

Indicative of the popularity of these hotels, a number were honoured at the conference with the Holiday Check Award 2018, which was based on 900,000 plus guest reviews. Meanwhile, Abu Dhabi also received an award in the “Personal Security” category in the Destination Satisfaction Index (SDI). These accolades helped further the delegation’s aim to capitalise on the record numbers of hotel guests visiting the Emirate, which, in 2017, numbered 4.87 million – a rise of almost 10 per cent over the previous year.

Speaking in attendance at the event, Mubarak Al Nuaimi, Director, Promotions and Overseas Offices, Department of Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi, said: “With more than 135,000 German visitors staying in our 162 hotels and hotel apartments in 2017, Germany continues to show its immense potential as a source market for tourists to Abu Dhabi. In fact, last year it was our eighth largest international source market, and so will remain a key market for us. It was a delight to once again participate at ITB Berlin and have the ideal platform to meet new and existing partners from the industry, as we continue to strive towards becoming the number one destination for German travellers.”

DCT Abu Dhabi won the ‘Best Stand in the Middle East Region’ for its pavilion, which hosted 48 partners and stakeholders during the fair.

The three-day conference also highlighted ‘Abu Dhabi Culture’ – DCT Abu Dhabi’s new comprehensive digital initiative which acts as a ‘one-stop-shop’ for all. Launched last month, it allows users to gain instant access to all aspects of cultural life and heritage in the emirate via their mobile phones.
