- For a limited time, an exclusive exhibition to take guests on a delightful voyage
Over 70 years ago, Van Cleef & Arpels began its intimate relationship with ballet & dance when Louis Arpels, one of the founding Arpels brothers and a passionate lover of ballet and opera, provided the basis for the design concept of precious Ballerina brooches to the Maison. Paying homage to the Maison’s enduring journey with dance, which over the years has become one of the Maison’s favorite themes of inspiration, the newly opened Les Salons Van Cleef & Arpels Dubai Opera will host the ‘Delicate Dancers’ Exhibition from 1st August to 15th September 2019.
This patrimonial exhibition will be the first of its kind held at the newly opened Les Salons Van Cleef & Arpels Dubai Opera, which is located at the Dubai Opera Plaza. At the heart of it, visitors will have the opportunity to view iconic ballerina brooches, which were created in the 1940s and 50s. Through their enchanting journey, guests will be introduced to the first ballerina clips which became a signature of Van Cleef & Arpels collections as well as delve into the tradition of feminine figures dear to the Maison.
The affinity that Van Cleef & Arpels has for the most poetic form of dance is beautifully portrayed in this exhibition highlighting the tradition of fluid movement, lightness and refinement. Each clip brings a joyful dance to life, and many are inspired by famous historical dancers such as La Camargo from the 18th century.
The Passion for Ballet
This is a story of passion. Ever since Louis Arpels had made a habit of going to Palais Garnier a few entrechats from Place Vendôme, Van Cleef & Arpels united with the art of dance. A passion that came to life with the first Dancer clips in 1941. Since then, world famous ballets have inspired some creations imbued with grace.
The Quest for Movement
Jewelry and dance share in common the dedication to precision and finesse. In carefully observing ballet dancers, Van Cleef & Arpels created a poetry of movement: touched by grace, the ballerinas seem to be dancing on pointe and spinning for eternity. A perfect arabesque, an aerial jeté and an exquisite entrechat become precious pieces in the hands of the craftsmen.
A Ballet of Tutus
Pleated gold, precious gems, ornamental stones… The Mains d’Or™ create tutus that perfectly mimic the shapes and textures of stage costumes. Reflecting the Maison’s know-how, they dress the dancers with thousands of colors. Their rose-cut diamond faces are the signatures of these elegant and feminine figures.
