The annual Bob Marley Festival is back featuring one of the royalty sons of the reggae legend Ky-Mani Marley. Now on its fifth year, the event will take place on February 9, 2018 at Yas Beach, Yas Island in Abu Dhabi.
Paying tribute to the Jamaican legend who would have been 73 years old this year, the celebration of music and art will carry Bob Marley’s ideals introducing them to the present generation. Grammy nominated musician Ky-Mani is following his father’s footsteps in taking the world by storm with his talents. Joining him on the stage to pay homeage is Reanno Devon Gordon a.k.a. Busy Signal, a Jamaican dancehall reggae artist, who ruled charts and had done collaborations with No Doubt, Major Lazer, and many more.
Following a successful event last year in Dubai, Ky-Mani is excited to come back to the UAE. He said, “The number of followers my father has in the UAE is impressive. I did not expect reggae to be big in the country. Because of that, I have prepared an even better line up along with my band Konfrontation. I look forward to celebrating my father’s legacy again with the amazing people in Abu Dhabi.”
Gates will open at 3pm for reggae fans to enjoy a themed décor full of memorabilia while listening to funky reggae beats. The tropical scene will take the guests to the Caribbean while being served authentic Jamaican dishes by local food trucks. Guests can also shop handmade creations by local talents that make up Artisans of the Emirates (ARTE).
“As we celebrate the life of legendary icon who brought reggae to the world stage, we are running a themed campaign to engage the community and make the festival more accessible for everyone,” said Adonai, event organiser, Steppin Razor/Reggae Beachfest.
The organisers are calling out to the artistic community to submit their works that embody Bob Marley’s free spirit character and his causes. Artworks could be in any visual art form as long as it represents the man, his legacy, music, and art. The artworks will be exhibited at the festival to be judged by Ky-Mani and Julian. The winning artist will get a chance to meet the Marley brothers at the festival, and the winning piece will be displayed at the Bob Marley Museum in Kingston, Jamaica. Deadline of submissions is on February 1, 2018. For more information, please email: firstname.lastname@example.org.
