Science Unveiled at Sharjah Children’s Reading Festival

A troupe of Ukrainian scientists and lab technicians has marked its Middle East debut by entertaining thousands of youngsters – and parents – at the Sharjah Children’s Reading Festival, being held at the Expo Centre Sharjah until April 29. From levitation with a simple balloon and hairdryer to an industrial leaf blower and a beach ball, the audience learnt the principles of aerodynamics and thermal energy. A liquid nitrogen show explained the reason for the low boiling point of dry ice and a fun relay of fire was created with soapy water and lighter fluid – don’t try this at home!

Technician and manager of ‘The Magic Lab Show’, Andrew Bortov believes in trying to break down the barriers of science. “I just want to show the children that there is nothing to be afraid of and that all science can be fun and explained in the right way. It’s all about sharing knowledge and enjoying yourself.”
