PAY DAY IN THE MAJOR WAGER

This week saw the first ever Major Wager event to be help at Sharjah Golf & Shooting Club, with a good field in both the lower and higher handicap divisions the cash prize was set to be a lucrative one.

Division One saw a large contingent of SGSC’s league team make a bid for the prize purse with some incredible golfing battles being played throughout the day. Coming out on top was Sunny Ramadas with 38 Stableford points, two clear of his nearest rival. Sunny’s front nine was incredibly composed with eight Pars and one Birdie giving him a 19 point Stableford score and moving him into contention for a nice payout. On the back nine Sunny was able to replicate the 19 points of the front nine but when about it very differently, including two Birdies and an Eagle. Coming closest to Sunny and picking up the runner up purse was a player retuning to for, Alex Charawani. Alex got off to a slow start and posted only 16 points on the front nine. The back nine was a different story, as Alex recorded two Birdies and an Eagle. If it hadn’t have been for a disappointing finish of back to back bogies Alex could have taken the spoils from Sunny.

Division two was won in convincing fashion buy EGF member Clive Piper. It certainly was a battle out there from the black & blue tees with the course playing difficult but Clive dug in deep and managed to post a score of 31 Stableford points to take victory. Highlights of Clive’s round included Net Birdies on the 6th & 14th Holes, and an impressive net Eagle on the 15th Hole. Fighting his way into second place was Raj Ranavaya, Raj was able to fight off two other competitors who also finished on 25 Stableford points as Raj posted 15 points on the back nine and won on the count back.
