National Media Council Hosts Delegation from the Colombian Association for Press and Media

The National Media Council (NMC) hosted a delegation from the Colombian Association for Press and Information visiting the UAE on May 7-9 and led by Gustavo Kassobwina, Executive President of the Association.

The delegation was introduced to some of the successes the UAE has registered in various sectors, including media, the economy, education, and renewable energy. The visit also covered cooperation, joint activities, and initiatives that promote cooperation and friendship between the two countries. The delegation looked into the possibility of broadcasting a television programme through a number of prominent channels in the Republic of Colombia, tackling the status of Emirati women and their active role in modernising the country.

The visiting delegation commended the UAE’s government and people for the positive image and good reputation it has come to enjoy in Colombia. It also expressed its admiration for the country’s cultural successes, achieved in record time. The delegation and the Council explored different means of conveying success stories from the UAE to Colombia, such as deploying foreign correspondents from the National Media Council.

On the sidelines of the visit, the National Media Council organised a series of meetings for the delegation, including a meeting with H.E. Shamma Al Mazrui, Minister of State for Youth Affairs, a field trip to the Emirates News Agency (WAM), and a visit to the Embassy of Colombia in Abu Dhabi. These activities seek to develop frameworks for cooperation and to strengthen Emirati-Colombian relations in such sectors as education, sustainable energy, media, women’s affairs, and tourism.

The delegation’s visit adds to the National Media Council’s vision to promote the media sector’s role in reflecting the best possible image of Emirati culture and society, both internally and abroad. The visit additionally focused on the role of media in strengthening bilateral ties between nations and finding common ground for cooperation at all levels.
