Australia Under 19s have powered to a 102-run win against Sri Lanka Under 19s in the 3rd Youth ODI in Hobart today.
A knock of 95 from first-drop Jack Edwards propelled Australia to a total of 7-251 from their 50 overs at Kingston Twin Ovals, before the hosts bowled Sri Lanka out for 149.
The win gives Australia a 2-1 advantage in the five-match series, with the final two games to be played on Friday and Sunday at the same venue.
Skipper Will Sutherland won the toss and elected to bat at Kingston Twin Ovals, and while Matt Spoors (0) fell in the opening over, fellow opener Ryan Hackney (39) and Player of the Match Edwards (95) laid the platform for a big total.
The pair combined for a 103-run stand before both fell to spin.
From there, all-rounders Austin Waugh (40 not out, off 54 deliveries) and Sutherland (49 off 33 deliveries) played crucial hands in the middle order to take the hosts beyond 250.
Left-arm spinner Praveen Jayawickrama was the pick of Sri Lanka’s bowlers with 2-56 from his 10 overs.
In reply, number seven batsman Jehan Daniel (55 not out) was the only Sri Lankan batsman to pass 20, as Australia’s bowlers took control.
Fast bowler Ryan Hadley struck three early blows, before finishing with figures of 4-61, while leg-spinner Lloyd Pope (3-46) also proved a handful for the tourists.
