Sandooq Al Watan, a national initiative launched by prominent Emirati businessmen to support research projects for the post-oil era, has received AED11 million in contributions.
AED4 million out of the AED11 million came from a philanthropist Emirati businessman, to be added to his previous contribution of AED6 million, in addition to AED1 million from His Excellency Ali Mohammed AlBlooshi, Chairman of the Ghantoot Group.
The new donors’ names will be added to Sandooq Al Watan’s Prime Funders list, which compiles the names of all contributors – individuals or institutions – until the end of the Year of Giving 2017, in an effort to entice the broader business sector to come on board and help the fund achieve its goals stated in the Sandooq Al Watan 2020 strategy.
“We are honoured to be heeding the call of this national initiative, which reflects the values of charity and generosity that are so characteristic of Emirati society,” H.E. AlBlooshi said. “Sandooq Al Watan offers a platform for businessmen and all those looking to do some charity work, allowing them to put their money and effort into nation-wide development projects.”
The Board of Directors at Sandooq Al Watan expressed its gratitude for the generous contributions coming from the Emirati people, which reflect their commitment to uphold their national duty and abide by the vision of the country’s wise leaders, who have called on us all to spare no effort in supporting the development, advancement and economic diversification of the UAE. The Board called on the broader business sector in the Emirates to follow suit and contribute to building the sustainable knowledge economy.
Sandooq Al Watan’s agenda includes a number of ambitious initiatives that heed to UAE leadership’s call to prepare for the post-oil era and empower a generation of young innovators across various sectors and segments, all in an effort to cement the UAE’s position among the world’s 20 most innovative countries in the world.
